Some super-loving ways to show your fur-iend you care this Valentine’s Day

We don’t know about you, but we thought January lasted forever! Valentine’s Day is the pawfect occasion to help you escape the New Year blues if you haven’t quite got out of them yet and will prepare you for the beautiful arrival of spring time. If you’re lucky enough to share your life with a dog, you have the best Valentine around already. (We’re sure you agree?) This loving holiday full of hearts and flowers can be made EVEN more special by doing these things with your four-legged love. Dinner & a movie Take the time to cook up a pup-friendly homemade meal. Add a few meaty steak chunks and some fresh veg that you both enjoy. Do you have a favourite rom-com that is pawfect for Valentine’s Day viewing? Have a movie night in your pyjamas and watch The Notebook with your pup, complete with snuggles and popcorn (make your own with just a dash of sea salt, so you two can share). Light a candle out of wagging tail range to make the room feel extra special and smell amazing. Put your paws up, you deserve it! Box full of love We know you can’t share a box of delicious chocolates with your pup, so instead make them a care package full of goodies which makes them feel just as loved. Include toys, treats (maybe even a pack of Cooka’s cookies!) and tie it all together with something edible so they can enjoy tearing it open. Explore If your ideal way to celebrate this holiday is by getting away from it all, why not take a trip with your pooch? Your loving fur-iend would follow you anywhere, so pack a few essentials and head to the beach, a hiking trail, or even the park for a special game of fetch. Bubble bath If, like Cooka, your dog LOVES bath time, this is the pawfect way to get him or her squeaky clean. Lather your pooch up in dog-friendly bubbles or scrub them with a gentle shampoo and warm water. Just be ready for plenty of puddles and a soggy doggy running around the house! Love jar Every time you think of a reason why you love your dog, or why you are grateful for them, write it down on a piece of paper, roll it up and tie with a ribbon. Keep these safe in a beautifully decorated jar and next Valentine’s Day, take them out and read them out loud to your fur baby. They may not understand what you are saying, but they will definitely be able to feel the love and emotion. Massage time Just like us pawrents, our fur babies need to relax. They too lead hard lives, running and playing all day, tiring themselves out. A massage can be very beneficial as it can help them chill out and alleviate stiffness and tension in their joints. Giving your dog a massage is a great way to bond with them, as well as an opportunity to spot potential health problems, like tumours or sore spots. Instead of loosening muscles with a deep tissue massage which us humans like, the aim is to use gentle motions that help your pet relax and feel comfortable. A nice massage done right will help your dog feel healthy, happy and loved. Donate/rescue Both you and your fur-iend are lucky enough to have the best Valentine’s gift: each other. However, there are other dogs out there that are still waiting for their forever family who they can spend this special day with. Why not give a little back to those who need it most by donating to your favourite animal charity or by helping out at the local shelter?
