I Woof You mommy and daddy. Let’s learn to speak doglish!
Do you ever wonder, how and when our fur-kids mean to say I WOOOF YOU? It is not always easy to read the love-struck behaviours of our pets, as the concept of hooman love is often attributed to hooman gestures and words, while in in the dogs world they may seem totally different. Without speaking ‘hoomanlish’ dogs usually show affection in these easy to understand ways. Just watch out for the next time there is a LOVE message awaiting you.1. When your dog brings you his/her favourite toy!
When your fur-child brings you his favourite toy it doesn’t just mean he/she wants to play with you. It also is a sign of Love. Your friend sees you as the natural leader, the pack-boss and asks you for a round of play. In his/her eyes, you love this toy as much as he/she and to show the LOVE, is to share the LOVE. Moca always would bring me MY favourite toy when I arrived back from work. She would rush down to the bedroom, climb on to our bed and steal my little plush elephant, to bring it straight to me. Just dropping it under my feet, she never asked to play with this toy, she knew it was special to me, and that’s why she brought it. Just thinking of these special moments brings back so much joy and sadness too. I miss you sweet girl!
2. That deep gaze into your eyes…
Now this could be almost hooman. Don’t we stare into each others eyes when we are love-struck? When a dog stares at your eyes it is a gesture of true affection. It is just like an embrace between two lovers.
3. When your kids like to be sleeping in your bedroom and on your bed!
If your fur-child chooses to sleep in your bedroom, preferably really close to your bed, or even on top of your bed, then there is no doubt, it is a real sign of love. Just like hoomans, dogs feel vulnerable when they are asleep and being close to you shows their trust in you. They just feel safe. In our home, all the kids sleep with us in the bedroom. It is not always a restful sleep, as sometimes they want to go out, or start licking and scratching. But once they go back to sleep, that little snoring sound errupting from their baskets, we feel so connected and like one big happy family. We actually tried a few times, to keep them next door, but the scratched door convinced us that this was not the way to go. 1:0 for the doggies!
4. When he/she like to lean into you. Often called ‘velcro’ dog
Sometimes our kids ‘stick’ to us because they are anxious and want to be reassured. But very often it is also an important sign of affection. As it shows that your fur-child believes that you are his/her protector.5. When your dog loves to lick you
Your dog can understand how much you love him/her. If you often get attacked with sticky love licks then this is a message saying: “I know you love me … and I love you too”
6. When he runs back to you, once dinner is finished
If a dog comes to you immediately after eating, it is an important sign of affection. We all know how much doggies like to eat, but once the feeding time is over and all he/she thinks is coming back into your arms, oh my… IT IS LOVE-LOVE-LOVE!7. Your dog feels guilty if you got a little angry
We all have seen those little guilty faces after there was an ‘accident’ or that ‘famous Alien force’ once again had entered the house and caused this insane destruction… (of course, it could not have been the doggie who ate the sofa and mommy’s favourite shoes, right?) When your fur-baby gives you that look, you know, those big puppy eyes with that ‘it-wasn’t-me’ kind of look? Well, they know they are in the dog-house and they feel bad, because they love you… And really, how can we ever be upset too long, when they look at us with those adorable eyes?8. When They Follow You To The Bathroom
If your fur-kid follows you everywhere, even to the bathroom, it means serious affection. Essentially your doggie cannot be without you, even for just one minute. At our home, private bathroom time has been something totally forgotten. All the kids join in the morning routine, and oddly enough - we don’t even mind! It is rather astonishing how we feel so comfortable having our fur-families around us, even in the most ‘private’ moments…
9. Your kids Adopt to Your Routine
Does your dog chooses to spend a large portion of the day together with you so that he/she practically accommodates to your routine? This is what lovers do, kind of like a boy and girlfriend.10. Your dog can feel your emotions
Often our dogs seem to understand us much more than our partners, as they have learned to decipher our hooman emotions. Dogs recognise when we are angry, sad or happy and they often react to our feelings, as they care very much for our well-being That is also the reason why we feel that when we are sad, our dogs want to comfort us… Because they really do! Only they cannot put these feelings in words, but in sweet doggie gestures.11. When you leave home and he/she keeps calm
Usually, most doggies express some sort of anxiety every time we leave home without them. But if your dog accepts the fact that you are about to leave the house and just looks at you with those “PLEASE COME HOME FAST’ eyes, then this also is a sign of a deep and trusting love towards you. As he/she just knows, soon you will be back and all is okay.
12. Warmly welcomes you as soon as you come home. Even if you just have left for 2 minutes!
We all know this excited show, when we return home to a 'sea of happy tails and dancing paws in the air'. We call it ‘The Freudentanz’ at home. (german for: the joy dance) Just to hear the sound of the hooman car and our fur-friends get soooo excited. It always makes returning home such joyful moment, and this unconditional love for just being back, it is such beautiful gift in life, don’t you agree?

WE WOOOF YOU sweet fur-children. You make our hooman world so much better. Thank you
